Foreword

Dear BPW partners, employees and friends,

in our company’s 120th year, we find ourselves at the start of a brand new journey: with agile development methods, root-and-branch digitalisation of products and processes and business initiatives in the Internet of Things and e-mobility, BPW is now more innovative and dynamic than ever before.

As a family business, we firmly believe that new ideas and initiatives need a solid foundation to successfully take flight. For many generations, BPW has followed the guiding principle of the ‘honest trader’. As notably old-fashioned as this term may seem today, the values it embodies are more relevant than ever: integrity, honesty, diligence, decency, respect, lawfulness, loyalty, responsibility, longterm thinking and reliability. These are values that anchor and guide us. They define our strong trust in our employees, customers and business partners and guide us as we develop new ideas and grow our business. And they are evident in our sustainable commitment to society and the environment.

Global trade wars, the imminent disappearance of moderation and the middle ground from political discourse and the current crisis of confidence in the automotive industry show how important it is to commit to ethical standards, even for small and mid-sized companies. Our commitment to the guiding principle of the ‘honest trader’ adheres to traditional values in the most positive sense – and that’s why it’s so forward-thinking: not just because innovations in transport and logistics are always innovations for the environment, too – but also because we wish to contribute to social cohesion as a company. That’s why BPW committed to presenting these contributions according to the principles of the United Nations Global Compact and producing an annual progress report for the first time in 2017. We would like to invite you to join us on this journey.
